With regard to all accidents on the job, you should follow these steps:

  1. Report the accident immediately to the Foreman or Shop Steward.
  2. Ensure that an accident report is filed right away to establish that the incident was job related. However, do not sign off on the statement without legal permission to do so.
  3. Keep your own record of the accident. Write down the exact date and location, including the job site address and the specific floor and area where you were working at the time of the accident. This is especially important on large construction sites as different contractors may have different repsonsibilities for the exact location of the accident area.
  4. Obtain the names, addresses, and phone numbers of any witnesses.
  5. Try to ensure that accident scene photographs are taken to show the condition which caused the accident.
  6. Please take photographs of all bodily injuries as soon as possible after an accident.
