BUILD UP NYC WINS NEW JOBS IN NYC

Local 46 helped start a campaign that has won hundreds of new jobs in New York City. Local 46 was a founding union along with the NYC District Council of Carpenters, the Laborers, DC 9 and 32BJ SEIU of Build Up NYC. The campaign grew to include the Hotel Trades and many other construction unions.
By sharing talent and resources we have had the strength to successfully take on developers like BFC on the Empire Outlets project on Staten Island’s north shore in 2013 and Alma Realty on its Astoria Cove project in 2014. Both of these projects are scheduled to begin within the next six months and will include hundreds of jobs for our members.
Build Up NYC has organized rallies, post card collections, lobby days in city hall, testimony before community boards, briefings for elected officials, leafleting and many other creative actions as part of the campaign for good jobs and responsible development. Richie Mohammad, a Local 46 member, was featured in an ad in the real estate industry paper Crains. And Local 46 member Mark Gilmore spoke at a rally on Staten Island about the importance of good and safe jobs.
Member activists from the participating unions have reached out to build community and political support for our campaigns by sharing their stories and experiences about the difference a good job makes for themselves and their families.
BUNYC is now focused on the Hudson Company proposed redevelopment of the Brooklyn Heights Library and Starwood Capital’s Pier 1 project in Brooklyn Bridge Park and development in Port Chester, New York.
Contact your business agent to find out more information or to get involved with BUNYC. We can continue to win good jobs when members participate in our campaigns.
