Saturday, September 12, 2015 turned out to be a perfect day for the annual Local 46 Labor Day Parade down 5th Avenue in Manhattan. T-shirts and hats were provided for the large contingent of Local 46 members who were on hand to march and celebrate a holiday first held in New York City on September 5, 1882.
The meaning of Labor Day is stated as follows on the US Department of Labor website:
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
A good time was had by all who attended as evidenced by the smiles on the faces of the Local 46 members and their families in the accompanying photo gallery.
